  • Upgrade

Following the implementation of IFS, there comes a time when an organisation needs to undertake an upgrade to the latest version. Fixes and patches are applied over a period of time, however, when IFS releases a new version of the application, organisations need to consider whether they will benefit from upgrading. Typical factors to bear in mind when considering whether to upgrade include cost, business benefit, access to new features and functionality, opportunity to improve and enhance business processes, the implementation of complete new modules or even whether their current version remains supported once the new version is released.

There is always a cost to an upgrade, so organisations need to make sure they identify the tangible business benefit from embarking on an upgrade initiative, however, they also need to ensure they maintain business continuity during the transition to the new version and do not take too many internal resources away from their day to day jobs, impacting operations and business activities.

The approach to the upgrade depends on a number of factors, such as the complexity of the current implementation, the number of sites/locations, number of users and modules installed.

Totalamber has a wealth of experience in managing projects to upgrade IFS and its Integrated Services Component Model provides the tools, methodologies and approach for undertaking an upgrade of IFS irrespective of the complexity of the current IFS implementation.

The first tool in Totalamber’s Rollout toolkit is the Upgrade Needs Analysis which helps clients to understand the drivers behind an upgrade initiative, and identify the tangible business benefit the business will derive from such an initiative. The UNA is designed to facilitate a seamless upgrade, mitigating the risks and issues ensuring all stakeholders are bought into the process, leaving the country or site with a fully functioning and supported IFS system that not only delivers local requirements but facilitates the global solution as well.

  • Rollout

Consolidation of ERP services into a single application, such as IFS, is a strategic direction many organisations are taking to not only reduce costs through a homogenous platform, but also to provide a consistent approach to delivering ERP services to all stakeholders. In order to successfully implement a global ERP solution, organisations develop a rollout programme to deliver the ERP application into different sites or countries, however, this is very often a complex programme of work and requires a detailed and structured approach ensuring that not only is the IT system in place, but also the people and processes are aligned with the implementation and that the overall solution supports the strategic requirements of the business.

The rollout of IFS into a number of different countries or sites typically involves the organisation developing a core or global template which forms the basis of the global solution and is then augmented for country or site specific implementations, depending on specific or local site requirements.

Totalamber has a wealth of experience in helping clients to rollout IFS across their organisation. Totalamber’s Integrated Services Component Model provides the tools, methodology and approach for delivering a pragmatic rollout programme, ensuring the global solution meets the strategic requirements of the organisation and local needs and aspirations are included as appropriate.

The first tool in Totalamber’s Rollout toolkit is the Rollout Needs Analysis which helps clients to design and deliver a pragmatic approach to rolling out IFS across the organisation and successfully implement IFS in each site or country in the rollout programme. The RNA is designed to facilitate a seamless rollout, mitigating the risks and issues of not only with the core blueprint but also by ensuring that an organisation has correctly established the right approach and configuration for each site or country and that all stakeholders are bought into the process, leaving the country or site with a fully functioning and supported IFS system that not only delivers local requirements but facilitates the global solution as well.

  • Support

Totalamber provides proactive 1st and 2nd line support services to thousands of users around the world. Following detailed market research, Totalamber identified a need for a new type of support service – one that delivers proactively and supports a client’s holistic ERP environment – not just technology, but includes people, process and business strategy.

Totalamber’s proactive support service provides a continuous improvement service to clients by working closely with key business stakeholders and addressing issues that are not just IT-focused, providing advice and guidance on the entire ERP environment and including the provision of business process advice and guidance, training, key user / business process owner support as well as the standard IT-based support services such as software fix management, systems administration and data based issues.

The first stage in any assessment of support requirements is Totalamber’s IFS Performance Review (IPR). The IPR is a 360 degree assessment of the IFS environment using Totalamber’s Diamond Methodology to assess the organisation across the four strategic dimensions of business strategy, people, process and technology. The IPR is designed to identify business system improvements that can be delivered as a Quick Wins (delivered in 1-4 weeks) and Strategic Initiatives (that can be delivered in 1-6 months).

Totalamber’s approach to a proactive support service is designed to identify potential issues and risks and mitigate these before they become business critical and impact business operations or performance. Proactively identifying and resolving these issues improves the performance and usability of the IFS system and potentially reduces reactive support.

  • Replace

For more than 10 years, Totalamber has delivered strategic management, technical and functional services to organisations using ERP applications. Totalamber’s expertise and knowledge in this market is well respected throughout the industry, not only by users of ERP systems, but also by consultants engaged on ERP projects and also by vendors. Many of Totalamber’s consultants are ex-vendor and some vendors have engaged the services of Totalamber to deliver services into some of their projects.

Totalamber’s knowledge and expertise in the ERP market has resulted in Totalamber being engaged by ERP system users to assist them in their initiative to replace their current ERP application with one that is more suitable to their needs.

The decision to replace an ERP system is not undertaken lightly by an organisation as the ERP system is a crucial component in the business operations and activities of the organisation. Not only does an organisation need to identify and select the most suitable replacement, they need to instigate a programme of work to migrate data, process, services and people across to the new ERP system, maintaining business as usual during the transition.

The replacement of an ERP system can have a considerable impact on the capacity of internal resources – maintaining business as usual whilst being involved in the process to identify, select and implement the new system can take considerable time and effort from key user and business process owners.
