Trelleborg
The business
Part of the multi-national, billion pound Trelleborg Group, Trelleborg Industrial AVS is a world leader in the design and manufacture of rubber-to-metal bonded products for the rail, marine, off-road, power generation and industrial sectors. Its specialist vibration control products are used in the protection of people, equipment and the environment right across the globe.
Headquartered in the UK, its Leicester head office includes a technical centre, research and development units and production facilities housing some 300 employees. The company has further production operations in Trelleborg and Sjöbo, Sweden and regional offices in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the USA.
Totalamber has worked on a number of projects with the company, most notably in Movex Financials, Manufacturing and Distribution and in the implementation of StreamServe.
The challenge
Having successfully conducted a similar roll-out in its Swedish operation in 2002, Trelleborg decided to implement a Movex solution at its head office in Leicester.
Braune comments: “We knew that this would involve large amounts of integration and development work and that we would therefore need to bring in experience in Movex implementation and roll-out projects. It was also clear that we’d need people who could refine the system – ‘standardise’ it across the business.”
The options
Accordingly, the company cast around the services market for potential consultants and came across Totalamber. Once Trelleborg had found them, it used Totalamber from the very outset of the UK project. There were two major differences in the Totalamber value proposition from the very beginning, says Braune. “Totalamber were consistently competitive on cost and their consultants were constantly available and easy to get hold of.”
The solution
Beginning in October 2002, the implementation took between six and eight months to roll-out. Totalamber made quite an impact, according to Braune. “When Totalamber came in they stood out immediately because they always acted in the best interests of Trelleborg rather than in the best interests of the software. Using Totalamber we could make the software fit much more closely to Trelleborg’s need”
Given the specialist nature of the implementation, the continuity offered by totalamaber was appreciated by Trelleborg, as Braune explains. “Because of the need to get people up to speed with your organisation’s working practices and with the business itself, it’s always a fear when using outsourced consultants that, after a particular project has finished or a contract has ended, you won’t get the same consultant next time you need one.
“As yet however, this has never happened with Totalamber.”
Client value
“The system is now in place and running live; it’s simply a question of getting everyone up to speed and to start using Movex to its potential. We’re still using Totalamber consultants in this regard - though more in a training capacity now than in an implementation sense, and we would certainly use them again.
“In conclusion, we certainly would not have been able to complete the implementation without Totalamber. They were receptive and attentive. They listened to our needs and they fulfilled our requirement.”
