Royal Haskoning
Royal Haskoning Project. Working with the second largest user of Agresso
Royal Haskoning are an international engineering consultancy firm specialising in the waters edge / marine sector, with offices in Holland, UK, China, India, Russia, Vietnam and Thailand. The organisation is currently running 5.3 versions of the Agresso platform; however have the business case to upgrade to Agresso 5.4 sp5. The nature of the organisation has led to business drivers such as consolidation of the business units and managing group wide reporting requirements.
Royal Haskoning’s Agresso consultancy provider is Unit 4 Netherlands, an international software company that has forged relationships with Agresso Norway, and in conjunction has been working with Royal Haskoning in areas of application and technical assistance. Whilst Unit 4 have strong links with Agresso, Royal Haskoning wanted to investigate other options for deployment of 5.4 sp5, as the UK based Agresso consultants have worked with 5.4 sp5 since Jan/Feb 2005, (totalamber has upgraded a number of Agresso clients to this version including Cheshire Building Society, Meat & Livestock Commission, and a number within the local authority sector).
Why are Royal Haskoning looking to Consolidate?
Haskoning’s core business is providing professional services, and one of the key areas of focus is the optimisation of cash flow, and understanding the value of projects (some 10,000 per yr). The need for continual and detailed insights into the status of projects that Haskoning delivers – greater visibility of key data within the group together with consolidation of all the business units, will standardise metrics and performance within the group in order to capitalize on project developments, allowing more accurate decision making.
Why would Royal Haskoning be concerned with continuity when they already have an established relationship with Unit 4 Agresso?
Royal Haskoning currently have their own internal competence centres, providing first line support to end users. Their strategy has always been to keep skills in house, allowing employees to be fully conversant with Agresso and the technology, negating the need to be over reliant on the vendor. Everyday support and changing management information requirements can be handled via internal resource, however new version and modules together with development are areas where the group seek to develop long standing strategic choices – for Haskoning a reliable and stable supplier of consultancy services is extremely important.
Royal Haskoning has worked with Agresso unit 4 (Netherlands), for over 4 years and are still engaged with them for areas of technical assistance and annual support (software). However in relation to functional consultancy, an in-depth knowledge of the capability of the software and experience within the most up to date versions is key to Royal Haskoning’s consultancy requirements. They were looking to work with a consultancy that understands the market and product, and appreciate the major drivers behind their strategy, in order to select the correct approach to delivering a solution based not only on immediate requirements, but future involvement with the 5.5 version. Haskoning were seeking to maximise their IT investment, focusing on implementing enhancements, and leveraging as much of the new 5.4sp5 functionality as possible.
Royal Haskoning selected totalamber for both the scoping and implementation exercise, where we provided a detailed project scoping document, highlighting key deliverables and efficiency gains the group could expect to achieve through an upgrade, consolidation and enhancement utilising totalamber’s consultants within the market.
